Jerry Goldsmith

Jerry Goldsmith vlastnim jmenem Jerrald Goldsmith se narodil 10.unora 1929 v Los Angeles. Hre na klavir se zacal ucit uz pocatkem ctyricatych let u profesora Jakoba Gimbela a pozdeji kompozici a hudebni teorii u Maria Castelnuovo-Tedesca. Pote nastoupil jako zak k legende filmove hudby a profesoru Mikloszi Rozsovi (El Cid, Ben Hur) na University of Southern California. Vliv sveho ucitele nemuze zaprit Goldsmith dodnes.

Svou profesionalni karieru zacinal Goldsmith pomalymi krucky na televizni stanici CBS. Zacaly prichazet zakazky a Goldsmith skladal hudbu pro rozhlasove hry (Romance nebo CBS Radio Workshop) a televizni porady. Psal v prumeru jednu doprovodnou hudbu tydne. V dalsim obdobi komponoval hudbu pro televizni serialy, jako napriklad The Twilight Zone nebo Dr.Kildare.

Pak si ho najali z Revue Studios, aby napsal hudbu pro jejich serial Thriller. Tam potkal filmoveho skladatele Alfreda Newmana, ktery mu nabidl praci na prvnim skutecnem filmu - Lonely Are the Brave (1962). V temz roce ziskal Jerry svou prvni oscarovou nominaci - za hudbu k zivotopisu Freud. V sedesatych letech patrily k vrcholum jeho tvorby dila The Planet of the Apes a Blue Max.

Sedmdesata leta byla pro Golsmithe velice uspesna: ziskava pet nominaci a sveho prozatim jedineho Oscara, za vyjimecne dilo Prichazi satan (The Omen). Zatim posledni Goldsmithovou nominaci je Zakladni instinkt, vynikajici soundtrack ovlivneny tvorbou Bernarda Herrmanna.

Jerry si dokonce i zahral ve filmu - v roce 1995 ve filmu In Harm's Way hraje na klavir a mihne se v obou dilech Gremlinu (na vystave vynalezcu ve filmu Gremlins a jako zakaznik s jogurtem v Gremlins II). Jeho zena Carol Heather je skladatelkou pisni a spolu s manzelem se podilela na filmu Capoblanco.

Syn Joel je take skladatelem filmove hudby. Mezi jeho dila patri napr. Joshua tree, Moon 44 nebo spoluprace s otcem na Star trek: The First Contact. Jerry ma take dalsiho syna Aarona a dceru Ellen.

Goldsmith se neboji experimentovat - pouzivat tradicni nastroje netradicnim zpusobem; vyuzivat elektronicke efekty apod. - a posunuje filmovou hudbu stale dal vpred. Co se me tyka, mam nejradej asi mazliva hudebni temata ke Gremlins a jim podobna. A napriklad jeho hudba k hororum a sci-fi tezko nekoho necha v klidu usnout u televize.
